The Devil and Tom Walker
i can infer that Tom and his wife were niiave, rude, sneaky and greedy all at the same time. First the wife she was greedy, sneaky and thought she could rule everything because in the story she hid things from Tom but then always wondered why he was so nosy. i mean any person would be nosy if some one around them was acting sneaky they maybe trying to plan something. The second thing about her being greedy after Tom had told her about the deal he made with the devil she didn't really care what came after that what the consequences were, how her husband was basically signing his life over to the devil she didn't care all she cared about was how she could get that money and trying to be greedy and do her husbands job she ended up loosing her life over that. Tom on the other hand should have been a little more careful and not have let his guard down. He knew the situation he had got himself into and who he got his self into it with protection was always needed and the only protection he could use was the bible so leaving it under the mortgage on the desk and in the bottom of his coat pocket was really stupid not knowing when his time was going to be or knowing that the minute he said know to somebody that was the end of him. He also should have been more thoughtful and not have forgotten were he came from how he was living be for getting rich. In a dark house with no visitors no heat and starving a poor horse half , almost to death. At the end of the story he started letting the money go to his head and that was the main test the devil was taking him through because he knew eventually Tom would slip up. The minute Tom said no to that man and then basically had the little main beg for one more day just so he could tell his family he had and start to try to figure something out like one more day was going to hurt that was the time for him to go. The devil on the other hand he already knew what he was doing from the time he popped up he new tom was just going to be another one of his victims. He seen how interested tom was in those tree barks he also seen the reaction tom made when he hit that helmet in the ground. The devil knew all he had to do was help the man get rich quick, let it go to his head, then take him all away from it. Tom didn't really care about his wife dieing all he cared about was the money so the Devil knew that Tom would be a piece of cake basically saying " I'm going to get Tom on my side get him to do what i want him to do let him taste how it feels to live the rich life really quick then take him away from it all cause he's not going to think straight for long so soon as i hear rudeness ill b there in a blink of an eye".

Got it. Your inferences are great however, you didn't mention whether or not your inferences were a result of direct or indirect characterizations from the author.
